Value is added to an object when it is made because the usefulness of the material increases. Making things from "scratch" though not always practical is especially satisfying. Recycling/reusing old objects that might otherwise be thrown out is similarly satisfying and often less expensive. Aside from the joys of frugality does this satisfaction arise in part from the fact that we imitate our Creator when we make stuff? I have heard that economies with a base of manufacturing are strong and stable. Surely if this principle is true for the economy at large it is true for the economy of the home. For further reading I will refer my reader to Mrs. Bear's thoughts on the subject.
